We were talking recently to a headteacher whose school is implementing the Empowerment Approach.
She told us that she was doing some follow-up coaching with a year 4 boy who had been struggling to meet expectations in a lesson. He said: "Why can't I just have a detention Miss? It's much easier."
The best possible feedback we could hope to hear! Coaching isn't just a nice chat, it's challenging. But with time and patience coaching trains children to think about what isn't working well for them and to make real and sustainable changes.
