Empowerment Approach


This research-based programme supports staff and pupils towards solution-focused thinking and success. Staff will explore a structured approach to improving emotional regulation and helping pupils to develop crucial executive function skills.

Programme delivery can be tailored to the needs of your school and your staff through twilights, INSET days and follow-up support.

Programme aims:

  • Discover the neurobiology that lies behind difficulties such as attention control, memory and emotional regulation.

  • Learn how to respond to these difficulties in ways that supports children's self-esteem and increases motivation.

  • Learn how to accurately identify physical, emotional and cognitive barriers to learning.

  • Develop the skills to help children understand and take control of their response patterns. 

  • Discover simple strategies to help children to overcome difficulties and become independent, motivated learners.

A new, research-based approach to managing and improving challenging behaviour which empowers teachers and children alike.  

The programme helps newly-qualified staff to understand the neuroscience behind challenging behaviour. It provides practical solutions and teaches simple tools to help teachers support children with issues such as: 

  • Managing emotions and impulses

  • Controlling attention and dealing with distractions

  • Listening

  • Organisation

  • Managing time and completing tasks

Through this course, early career teachers will learn how to help children develop the skills needed to learn and achieve their best.

Getting off to a good start

Group Lecture

For people who have already learned the principles and models of the Empowerment Approach and are now looking to develop their expertise and skills.

This programme is designed for those who work with children and young people on a 1-1 basis, such as SENCOs, pastoral managers and teaching assistants.  

Working in a small group, participants will have plenty of time to practise and hone their skills to coach children to success.  

This programme carries the option of accreditation and will include elements of assessment to demonstrate that Empowerment Approach Specialists really know their stuff.
